Bello Elrufai, the son of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Some other members of the House of Representatives also left APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ADC, on Thursday.
Among them were two PDP lawmakers from Kaduna State Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Yahaya Richifa.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, who read the lawmakers’ letters during plenary, said the affected members cited internal crises and uncertainty in their former parties as reasons for their decisions.
The Speaker also announced the defection of Kamilu Ado from Kano State from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Similarly, Joshua Obika, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, resigned from the APC and joined the NDC.
The lawmakers, in their separate letters, attributed their defections to unresolved internal disputes and uncertainties within their former political parties.
El-Rufai ‘s defection is particularly notable given his political lineage, as the son of former governor, whose alignment with the ADC has continued to attract national attention.
His father’s defection from the APC to the SDP and later alignment with the ADC was reportedly followed by the exit of former allies from Kaduna State Government.
They include former Commissioners Ibrahim Hussaini (Agriculture), Aisha Dikko (Justice), Amina Baloni (Health), and Halima Lawal (Education), as well as former Head of Service, Hajiya Bari’atu Mohammed.
