Hon. Joseph Oguchi Jacobs, popularly known by his stage name “Saro Wiwa,” is a prominent indigenous Owerri Bongo music artist who has declared his political intention to run for the Owerri Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
Born in Egbu, Owerri, Imo State, the singer-turned-politician has actively been advancing his grassroots campaigns across Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, and Owerri West Local Government Areas. His campaign focuses on tackling the economic hardships, infrastructure deficits, and youth marginalization facing the constituency.
Speaking on his decision to enter the race, on 20th May 2026, Sarowiwa said:
“Today marks a significant step forward in my commitment to serve our people.”
“I have picked up my Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms at the NDC office in Abuja. With this, I am officially declaring my intention to contest for the Owerri Federal House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections.”

Beyond politics, Sarowiwa remains one of Bongo highlife most recognisable singer. He rose to prominence after releasing his Debute Album BONGO JERE UZO IJE

After years away from dropping new highlife songs, the musician returned to the industry in 2025 with amazing singles such as Apkarila Nwa Mbaise, Money Good and Emerem Gini ft Mezzyblack.
