Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Things you need to know

‎
‎1. A few hours after receiving documents containing alleged gross misconducts against Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from 26 lawmakers, Speaker Martin’s Amaewhule has transmitted letters containing the allegations to the Governor and his Deputy. The letter entitled: “Notice of allegations of gross misconduct” was dated January 8, 2026 and signed by Amaewhule.

2. The federal government has announced that all group-stage bonuses due to players of the Super Eagles at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations have been released and are expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours. The disclosure was made by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, in response to reports suggesting that the national team was considering boycotting training sessions and could refuse to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final.

3. Kano State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind the planned defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing unresolved leadership crises and ongoing court cases that it says could jeopardise his mandate. Addressing journalists on Thursday, the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Hussaini, said remaining on the NNPP platform had become increasingly risky.

4. At least 10 children have been killed in a cholera outbreak in Chanchangi town in Takum LGA of Taraba State. It was learnt that the outbreak started on Tuesday. It was learnt that three days ago, some children between the ages of four and 10 started vomiting and having stomach pains in the town.

5. President of Dangote Industries Limited, Alh. Aliko Dangote has withdrawn a formal petition he submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission against the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Farouk Ahmed. The business mogul withdrew the petition from the anti-graft agency through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The party said it will do everything possible to stop the impeachment.

7. A 46-year-old Nigerian man, Osemwengie Irorere, has been shot and killed inside a bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal, located on the Yorkdale Road and Allen Road area of Toronto, Canada. Confirming the incident, the Toronto Police Service said a 40-year-old suspect, identified as Tyrel Gibson, has been charged with first-degree murder.

8. No fewer than eight people have been confirmed killed as rival cult clashes spread across Benue State. The spokesperson for the state police command, Udeme Edet, earlier on Thursday, disclosed that two people were killed in a rival cult clash in Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of the state.

9. The All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State has dismissed as false and misleading claims circulating on social media that a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has defected to the African Democratic Congress. This was contained in a statement issued by the party’s State Organising Secretary and Coordinator of the APC e-membership registration exercise, Hassan Abubakar, on Thursday in Lafia.

10. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company on Thursday announced an outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory. The outage affected Kuje, Galadinmawa, Games Village, Kaduna Garden, and parts of Wuye, Utako, Apo, Garki, Asokoro, Keffi and Akwanga.
