Olamilekan Taiwo, known by his stage name Logos Olori, is a talented singer signed to the record label of popular music artist, David Adeleke, also known as Davido.
However, the release of Logos Olori’s music video, “Jaye Lo,” on July 21, 2023, has sparked controversy among Muslim fans.
The 45-second teaser of the video showcased men dressed in traditional white jalabia and caps, dancing in front of a mosque. To add to the uproar, Olori was seen sitting on a speaker mounted on the roof of the building.
Additionally, the singer’s use of the phrase “Alhamdulillah” (praise be to God) in the song further fueled the discontent among some of their fans, particularly those who are Muslims, as they found the representation and context inappropriate.
Davido shared the video on his Instagram page, introducing Logos Olori and promoting his new single, “Jaye Lo,” while expressing excitement about their collaboration and urging fans to support the release.
However, the post received backlash from a fan named Abba Sa’ad, who expressed disappointment and announced their decision to stop supporting Davido due to what they perceived as disrespect towards Islam.
The incident has raised concerns about cultural sensitivity and appropriate representation in music videos, prompting discussions about the responsibilities artists and record labels have in considering diverse audiences and their beliefs.
