Much about appointment of Hon. Silas Ali Agara as Chairman National Population Commission NPC; A response to politically motivated press statement by Youth Wing of the christain Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN Nasarawa State Chapter.
Since the news of nomination for appointment as Chairman National population commission NPC of the former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State Hon. Silas Ali Agara and the rumour of attempt to short change his name broke out on Sunday 23rd August, 2020 by Sahara Reporters, the political atmosphere in the State has become charged with series of allegations and counter allegations.
Most worrisome about the current debate is the religious dimension taken by the promoters of this political crisis whose main intent is to cause disunity among key actors and the peace loving citizens of Nasarawa State.
While we condemn the religious coloration given to the report by Sahara Reporters in their publications of Sunday 23rd and Tuesday 25th August 2020 for heating the political atmosphere, We are particularly saddened by the actions of some self acclaimed members of the Nasarawa State Government’s kitchen cabinets for inflaming the crisis.
We particularly note with concern series of media propaganda sponsored by the so-called Government officials, including the recent one purportedly issued by the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria YOWICAN in Nasarawa State, accusing the former Deputy Governor H.E. Hon. Silas Ali Agara of whipping religious sentiment for selfish gain.
No doubt, it is those accidental politicians at the corridors of power today who at one time or the other benefited from the political benevolence of the former Deputy Governor that are destroying the same platform that brought them to lime light for selfish gains.
Why on earth will sane human being chose to use a religious body platform to destroy another at such a period they ought to be agent of promoting unity in the body of Christ which they profess to follow; that is if they believe in the Faith at all.
We therefore advice the leadership of YOWICAN to quickly retract the publication because it does not speak well of a reputable christian body which they represent and avoid being used by desperate politicians for their parochial interest.
We equally wish to appeal to our amiable Governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule to call some of his political aides to order because their actions are rather damaging than adding value to his political career.
While acknowledging the fact the President Muhammadu Buhari reserves the absolute right to such appointments, we must calm our nerves and allow him carry out his official responsibilities without any form of interference.
