Speaking at the presentation, Chairman Kaduna South DCC ECWA, Reverend Iliya Yunana said they realized members needed assistance because of the lockdown, which prevents them from going out to look for what to eat.
He prayed God takes away the pandemic, to make things go back to normal.
Reverend Yunana appealed to their members and all Nigerians to obey the authorities in ensuring the spread of CoronaVirus is checked.
” I am appealing that we should respect government orders, obey social distance and stay indoors, soon the pandemic will be over,” he declared.
Speaking further, he said he believes God is trying to teach the world a message through the pandemic.
“It is a lesson for us to know and be obedient to God. If there is sin we are committing, we should repent, come back to God and he will heal the land,” he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary ECWA Kaduna South DCC, Reverend Enoch Joshua Bityong, said the goverment’s palliatives were not seen and people dying of hunger are their members, spending days without eating, which informed their decision to distribute food items.
“As a district, we are spending about N1.4m to do what we are doing. We wish we could do more, but decided to do this little to ease hardships.
“We want to beg the government, these people dying elected them. I want to use this medium to beg the goverment to do something.” Also, people responsible for the sharing should be responsible and not divert the palliatives.
“They should fear God because all these things, they will account for on judgment day,” he warned.
Speaking further, he said that what they are doing should serve as a motivation, an encouragement to other DCCs and other religious bodies, NGOs, to rise to the task, because people are dying of hunger.
“I appeal to Nigerians to obey the government by staying at home, washing hands and obeying social distancing. Government cannot just wake up and stop us from going to religious places because those in Government are either Muslims or Christians, they are doing it for the overall good,” he stressed.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Reverend David Ayuba of Ungwan Sunday Local Church Council (LCC) thanked executives of the DCC for the gesture, promising to judiciously distribute the items.
He prayed for God to open more doors for them and meet them at their point of needs.
In her remarks, the Women Fellowship Leader of the Kaduna South DCC, Mrs. Mercy Elisha said that she believes that whenever the beneficiaries cook and eat the items, they would be praying for the donors.
Items presented included bags of maize, rice, semovita, garri, cartons of noodles, vegetable oil and spaghetti.
Members of the church from Television, Romi, Federal Housing, Kakuri, Gonin Gora, Katarma, Kaure, Sabon Gaya, amongst others benefited from the gestures.
