Apprehension has reportedly spread throughout the FULafia community following the alleged kidnapping of three students.
Fear and uncertainty have gripped the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) community following the reported abduction of three students by suspected gunmen late Tuesday night.
According to sources within the university community, the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. at Living Seed, a student residential apartment in the Maraban Akunza area, an off-campus community where many FULafia students live.
Reacting to the incident, a student, Catherine N. Saawuan, appealed for prayers in a post on Facebook, expressing growing concerns over the safety of students.
“Dear friends and loved ones, please remember all students of Federal University of Lafia in your prayers. We are no longer feeling safe after the kidnapping that happened today. Pray for God’s protection over every student and for the safe and quick release of those students who were kidnapped. May God surround us with His mercy, keep us from every danger, and bring our fellow students home safely. Amen.”
She also shared a video in which voices could be heard claiming that students had been abducted from the Living Seed residence.
As of the time of this report, security authorities had not officially confirmed the incident. However, several sources within the university community told our correspondent that three students were allegedly taken by the suspected gunmen.
The reported kidnapping comes just hours after the killing of businessman Jamilu Yahaya Attach, who was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Lafia on Monday night. Attach, who had recently gotten married, was said to have been attacked in what has further raised concerns about the worsening security situation in the Nasarawa State capital.
The two incidents have heightened fear among students and residents, with many calling on security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to strengthen security measures, protect lives and property, and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students.
