The fire outbreak at the Lafia Modern Market in Nasarawa State has destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
The incident, which began around 9:45am on Friday, was reportedly caused by a nearby dumpsite.
The Director of the Nasarawa State Fire Saervice, Joshua Ombugu, confirmed the incident and the cause of the fire outbreak.
Ombugu said that properties worth an estimated N150 million were destroyed, while goods valued at about N10 million were salvaged.
The state fire service boss was quoted as saying, “We estimated the property lost to be worth about N150 million and the property we were able to save worth about N10 million.”
Ombugu added, “There were no casualties. We promptly mobilised our team, deploying five fire ambulances to the scene.”
