In Nnewi, Anambra State, a new church called Ogbanje Church of All Nations recently opened its doors for the first worship service.
During the service, members joyfully sang and danced to songs praising popular river goddesses in the region. A video of the congregation celebrating their worship is trending on social media.
The presiding cleric, speaking in Igbo, encouraged the congregation to worship what they are familiar with rather than blindly following names from the Bible without understanding their significance.
He emphasized the importance of embracing their culture and traditions.
The cleric mentioned several local rivers and river goddesses, such as Obò River, Mmiri Ele, Orasò River, Mmiri Edo, Ofala River, Ota, and Ezu River, urging the congregation to honor and worship them.
He proudly identified himself as an Ogbanje, claiming that those who follow the rivers and goddesses they know tend to prosper and thrive over the years.
