Daredevil gunmen have kidnapped Professor Onje Gye-wado, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, when the attackers invaded Gwagi village in Wamba Local Government Area of the state.
Onje Gye-wado, who served as deputy governor during the Abdullahi Adamu administration, was abducted from his residence after the gunmen shot sporadically.
The Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state had mobilized a reinforcement team comprising police tactical units, military personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters to rescue the victim unharmed. The whereabouts of the former deputy governor remain unknown.
The kidnapping of Onje Gye-wado is the latest in a string of attacks and abductions in the North-Central region of Nigeria, where banditry and other forms of criminality have been on the rise.
The incident has sparked outrage and calls for improved security measures to protect citizens and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
