In its classical sense, the legislative arm of government is the only platform that citizens can have a say in how they are governed. Legislators, representing the people, are principally empowered to make laws and act as checks on the executive.
Despite the constitutional safeguard of independence, aimed at securing the competence of Hon Ombamas, he has confidently continue to put up abysmal performance in the discharge of his duties.
Since Nasarawa North collectively elected the lawmaker, his performance at best can be classed as below average and at worst, zero. From ill-researched Bills that don’t even make it to committee stage to not even sponsoring one; this lawmaker have been blazing the trail as one of the factors contributing to our Constituency stagnation.
Recalled some few years back, the media aides of the underperforming lawmaker were busy posting about his bill of creating a Federal University of Tourism in Nasarawa North, Wamba LGA to be precise amidst constructive criticism from few individuals from the Constituency who thought will make the lawmaker wake up from slumber but instead it sent him to a befitting sleeping on a bicycle.
The only bill that was supposed to be his only achievement in the Green Chamber is the Federal University of Tourism which is yet to be sign into law by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for more than a year now.
It is within the constitutional right of constituents to demand accountability from their representatives. It is also within their right according to Section 69 and 110 of the Constitution to remove any non-performing lawmaker through the mechanism of recall.
Regrettably, this constitutional device is rarely set in motion despite mounting evidence of incompetence by Hon. Ombamas.
Frustrated with an unresponsive and corrupt system, constituents of Nasarawa North deliberately shy away from holding their representatives to account.
Most constituents have never heard from nor seen their representatives and many may never do so. In reality I don’t know why it is cumbersome for the good people of Nasarawa North to formally invite their representative to a town hall meeting for briefings.
We elected him and he should be accountable to us, he should tell us why he has been a failure since he was voted into Office to represent us. He should explain why he disconnected himself from us, the good people of Nasarawa North, he should tell us why he feels enticed by his new status as well as demand for his recall even before going to the polls to show the level of his epileptic representation in the Green Chamber.
In view of the above, I want to urge you all the good people of Nasarawa North to come out enmass and vote credibility and not implausibility, accountability not inculpability, intellectual material not dim material etc.
By so doing we are confident of bills that will make Nasarawa North great and better with Federal projects and establishments that will not only create Jobs opportunities to us but make posterity to be kind to our unborn Generations.
