The Council’s Chairman Hon Peter Danjuma Averik said this in his welcome address during the second meeting of the Local Government Rapid Response Team held at the Council’s Secretariat, kafanchan on Tuesday.
Hon Averik observed that cases of Corona virus are in the increase daily hence he said the need for the Team to intensify efforts towards community sensitization on the dangers of Covid-19 virus and enforcement of Government’s precautionary decisions which he said were meant to ensure the people are safe from Corona virus.
Updating the Team members on his Council’s efforts so far, Hon Peter Averik said besides sensitizing the public through Radio programs and on the social media, the council has purchased preventive consumables such as hand sanitizers and face masks worth thousands of naira which he however said were inadequate to reach all the people.
He lamented the lean financial position of the local government which he said has made it practically impossible for his Council to provide enough preventive items for the people and called on spirited individuals and cooperate bodies to assist either financially or by providing materials such as hand sanitizers, hand gloves, face masks and food stuffs so as to enable those with critical needs to access them.
He used the occasion to sympathise with the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad Elrufai and others who have tested positive of Covid-19 virus and prayed God to grand them quick healing.
Also speaking, the Medical Director, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital kafanchan, Dr Samuel Kure and the Director, Primary Health Care, Jema’a Local Government, Mr Habila Bako Barem cautioned the people against needless traveling and gatherings, but advised them to observe social distancing, good respiratory hygiene, and to constantly wash their hands with soap and water, describing the habits as the best methods to stay safe of Covid-19 virus.
After much deliberations, the Team identified Automated Teller Machines (ATM points) as possible Covid-19 vectors considering that customers operate them without any forms of protection.
The Team therefore resolved to plead with Banks operating in the Local Government to provide water and soap and to as well ensure that customers wash their hands before operating the Machines.
