In the spirit of Easter, the Grassroots Initiative for Good Governance and Development (GIGG&D) has extended humanitarian support to patients in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, through the donation of relief materials and cash assistance.

The outreach, carried out on April 6, 2026, benefited patients at Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital and a Child Welfare Primary Health Care (PHC) facility located along Emir’s Palace Road. The initiative was aimed at easing the financial and emotional burdens faced by vulnerable patients while promoting compassion during the festive season.

Members of the organisation visited the health facilities, where they interacted with patients and healthcare workers before distributing essential items across various wards. Selected patients also received cash donations to help offset medical expenses.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Hospital Visitation Committee and Acting Secretary of GIGG&D, Mr. Shul-Nom Yohanna Bako, said the gesture was part of the group’s commitment to supporting patients in need. Represented during the engagement with hospital management, led by the Hospital Secretary, Mr. Rayyanu Sanusi, Bako noted that the donations were carefully selected to improve patient comfort and support recovery.

The outreach also covered the Child Welfare PHC facility, where mothers and children receiving care were provided with similar assistance. The intervention was warmly received by beneficiaries and healthcare staff, who commended the organisation for its timely and thoughtful support.

In his remarks, the Convener of GIGG&D, Mr. Mathias Avong, emphasised that the initiative aligns with the organisation’s broader mandate of community development and social responsibility. He noted that the Easter period offers an opportunity to demonstrate love, compassion, and solidarity with those facing health challenges.

Healthcare workers at the facilities expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as impactful and supportive of ongoing care efforts. Some patients, visibly moved by the gesture, also conveyed gratitude, noting that the assistance would help alleviate their current difficulties.

Mr. Sanusi, in his response, praised the organisation for its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and encouraged members to sustain their humanitarian efforts, noting the inherent value and rewards of such service.

The convener further appreciated members of GIGG&D for their dedication and sacrifices, particularly the Hospital Visitation Committee members—Shul-Nom Yohanna Bako, Hannatu Sadau Sanda, Martins Elisha Shuka, Diana K. Dzarma, and David Salihu—for ensuring the success of the outreach.

GIGG&D reaffirmed its commitment to continuing humanitarian interventions across communities, with a focus on improving lives through targeted support. The organisation also called on stakeholders to collaborate in advancing welfare initiatives and fostering inclusive development.

The outreach highlights the critical role of non-governmental organisations in complementing public healthcare services and underscores the importance of collective action in addressing societal challenges within the health sector.
