Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Find out what you need to know today

2. Former Governor Gabriel Torwua Suswam has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, citing lingering internal conflicts as the primary reason for his decision. In a letter dated February 4, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Benue State, Suswam formally communicated his resignation from the party. He has formally joined the All Progressives Congress.

3. The Department of State Services, DSS, has arraigned former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, on a five-count charge of terrorism and illegal firearms possession. The father and son were arraigned on a five-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja, in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/63/2026.

4. No fewer than 162 people have been killed in a deadly attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Tuesday, in what has been described as the deadliest armed assault in the state this year. A Red Cross official and local authorities confirmed the figure, while residents recounted harrowing details of mass executions and arson carried out by the attackers.

5. The Senate on Wednesday assured that continued cases of armed banditry, insurgency, with continued killings, kidnapping and wanton destruction of property will end this year 2026, pledging to take a second look at the 2026 budget, with a view to funding the military.

6. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition during separate intelligence-led operations in Ajegunle and Ojo areas of the state. In Ajegunle, police said actionable intelligence revealed the activities of suspected hoodlums, who allegedly operate with commercial motorcycles while armed with dangerous weapons.

8. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has revealed that at least 75 residents were killed in a brutal attack on two villages for resisting extremists who sought to impose a “strange doctrine” on the area. The governor, speaking during a visit to Kaiama Local Government Area, accompanied by security chiefs and cabinet members on Wednesday, described the massacre as a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells.

9. Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a Ghanaian national, Samuel Frimpong, for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment in Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was accused of de-roofing the residence of his tenant, Anozie Tochukwu, located at No. 7 Chief Chike Street, following a disagreement over his failure to vacate the apartment after the expiration of a two-week grace period.

10. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted nine members of the same family, including a nursing mother and several children, along the Benin-Akure Road in Edo State.
