Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Things you need to know

‎
‎1. One week after the abduction of 28 travellers in Plateau State, their kidnappers have insisted on the payment of N1.5 million ransom for each adult victim. Relatives of the victims said on Sunday that the kidnappers first contacted them on Tuesday, demanding N1.5 million per person.

2. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Sunday raised fresh concerns over what he described as a constitutional crisis following the alleged alterations in the gazetted version of the tax laws. He insisted that any law not gazetted the way it is passed is a nullity and amounts to forgery.

3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday departed Lagos for Europe to continue his end-of-year break ahead of an official trip to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed this in a statement across his social media platforms on Sunday.

4. Unidentified gunmen have invaded a house in Pindiga village in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, killing two siblings and abducting four other persons in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased, identified as Yusuf Mohammed, 31, and Faiza Mohammed, 28, were reportedly shot dead in their residence along the Pindiga–Kashere Road at about 3:30 a.m.

5. Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has released what he described as documentary evidence to support his claim that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, received N50 billion from the Federal Government as a special intervention fund following the January 2024 explosion in Ibadan. Fayose made the documents public on Sunday in a statement accompanied by a memo from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.

6. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday cautioned those he described as “emergency singers” of the slogan “On your mandate, we shall stand” to honour existing agreements, declaring that no one can deceive them with sudden displays of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Wike stressed that agreements must be respected, noting that late political sloganeering would not erase past realities.

7. Suspected thugs have stripped naked the Chief Executive Officer of Hosamudia Farm, Don Pedro Obaseki, in Benin City, the Edo State capital. In a video circulating on the internet on Sunday, Obaseki was seen being attacked at Uwa Primary School, where he had gone to play football. Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, was reportedly taken to the palace and made to kneel at the gate of the Oba’s Palace.

8. Nine bandits were reportedly killed during a heavy exchange of gunfire between the Nigerian military and criminals at Bakaji and Unguwar Garma in the Goron Dutse area of Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State. One vigilante member was also killed, while another was wounded during the encounter.

9. President Bola Tinubu has promised to resolve the political feud between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State. Tinubu made the promise on Sunday in Makurdi at the wedding reception of Deborah and Samuel Akume, son of the SGF.

10. The Director-General of the Protocol Directorate of Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, has said that the citizens of the state and voters have agreed that the former governor and incumbent, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Governor Abba Yusuf should defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP. He disclosed this in a viral video released by Arewa Update on Sunday.
