Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian major Newspapers that you should know.

‎
‎1. The Federal Government has confirmed the release of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft and 11 personnel who were detained in Burkina Faso following a forced landing. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Mr. Kimiebi Ebienfa, announced the development on Wednesday night, stating simply: “Yes, they have been released.”

2. The newly defected Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday night, paid an unscheduled visit to the national headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. Fubara arrived at the party secretariat at about 6:50 p.m., where he was received by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; the National Welfare Secretary, Hon. Donatus Nwapa; and the Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru.

3. President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of two nominees to the Senate for confirmation as chief executive officers of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. A statement by the president’s spokesman Bayo Onanuga, said the nominations followed the resignation of Engineer Farouk Ahmed, former Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, and Gbenga Komolafe, former Chief Executive of the NUPRC.

4. The High Court of Justice of Delta State, Orerokpe Judicial Division, has granted an interim injunction restraining the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force from implementing and enforcing the tinted glass permit policy scheduled to commence on January 2, 2026. The order was issued yesterday by Justice Joe Egwu following a motion ex parte filed by Mr. Israel Joe and argued by a legal team led by Kunle Edun, SAN.

5. The Nigerian Labour Congress has declared that workers in Nigeria are no longer safe, even within their workplaces as union members staged protests in Cross River, Zamfara, Plateau, Bauchi states and other parts of the country. The State Chairman of the NLC in Cross River, Comrade Greg Olayi, made this assertion in Calabar while leading a peaceful protest against the worsening state of insecurity across the country.

6. A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki (PDP Sokoto), on Wednesday raised a matter of privilege on the floor of the House, alleging discrepancies between the tax laws passed by the National Assembly and the versions subsequently gazetted and made available to the public. Dasuki told the House that his legislative privilege had been breached, insisting that the content of the tax laws as gazetted did not reflect what lawmakers debated, voted on and passed.

7. No fewer than 12 persons have reportedly been killed, while three others were abducted after gunmen attacked miners in Fan community of Barkin Ladi LGA, Plateau State. According to Channels Television, the attack occurred at about 9 pm on Tuesday while they were engaged in “legal mining” activities. The incident also left five other miners injured.

8. The Naira on Tuesday depreciated to N1,492 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,485 per dollar on Tuesday. Similarly, the naira depreciated to N1,458.02 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM.

9. The Federal Government has imposed an immediate nationwide ban on the export of wood and allied products, revoking all previously issued licences and permits. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, during the 18th meeting of the National Council on Environment in Katsina State.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said it will prosecute five herbalists arrested at shrines in Lagos and Osun states over the alleged possession of fake $3.4 million and €280,000. The EFCC disclosed in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Wednesday that the arrests followed a report that the suspects allegedly swindled one Halima Sanni of N26m.
