An American lady, Ruth Stanley, has started the process of filling a Romance Scam with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against Nigerian NollyWood actor Bright Chigozie Mbata, popularly known as Bright Morgan, over allegations of romance fraud and emotional exploitation.
According to documents and statements obtained by ThisDay, Miss, Ruth accused Mr. Bright of deceitful conduct during their relationship, which she described as both romantic and financial in nature. She alleged that evidence obtained by her legal team, from Mr. Bright Morgan’s online activities revealed internet scams and multiple affairs with women married and single who may have also fallen victim to similar patterns of deception.
Miss Ruth, mentioned that her exclusive relationship with Mr. Bright, was known to his family, stating that he embarrassed her by misrepresenting the nature of their relationship in public; describing it as merely “online relationship” despite their engagement and shared long-term plans especially from Mr. Mbata and family. She added that the FBI filling will put Mr. Bright Mbata on international alerts, warning foreign nationals of his risks due to his highly suspecious online activities and a possible jail term.
The controversy deepened following Mr. Mbata’s participation in a popular reality television show, where he accused Miss. Ruth of calling Multichoice, the show’s organisers, to influence his alleged disqualification.
Responding to the allegation, Miss. Ruth Stanley confirmed she had contacted Multichoice but denied any attempt to get him disqualified.
“I contacted Multichoice because I discovered he was having multiple affairs with married women and men,” she explained. “I was alarmed and wanted to find a discrete way to get his attention. It had nothing to do with seeking his removal from the show.”
She further alleged that Mr. Bright Mbata’s continued public comments on the matter were based on misinformation provided by his younger brother. Miss. Ruth described the situation as “deeply sensitive,” noting that some of the women allegedly involved with Mr. Bright Mbata are married with children.
The American also expressed disappointment over what she termed “a pattern of public disrespect,” citing Mr. Mbata’s decision to retain tattoos symbolizing their former relationship, including one across his chest reading “Love Conquers All”, which she claimed to have paid for in full herself..
“The tattoo was supposed to represent our bond,” she said. “It’s unfortunate that something so personal has become a reminder of betrayal. He has yet to apologise for the embarrassment and the events that followed his appearance on national television.”
Miss. Ruth confirmed that she officially ended the relationship two days before making her statement and that her legal team is preparing to pursue the matter further.
In an additional disclosure, she recounted her role in preparing Mr. Bright Morgan for his entry into the reality show, including fasting and prayers, selecting his stage name, Bright Morgan, also selecting and helping to build his fan identity, BrightStars.
“He initially wanted to use ‘BM,’ but I suggested ‘Bright Morgan’ instead. I coordinated everything — from day one of his audition, his wardrobe to his pre-show branding. I believed in him and supported him completely; emotionally and financially without any help from his family,” she said.
Describing the experience as “disappointing and embarrassing” Miss Ruth noted that she had been Mr. Bright’s emotional and logistical support system aiding him to appear on a national television show where he cheated on her in full view of millions of people.
She maintained that the situation has now escalated beyond a personal dispute, adding that she is determined to seek legal redress through appropriate channels.
“This matter is far from over,” she said, “We will follow due process and get the justice deserved.
