Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said if the need arises, he can forgo his presidential ambition and back a younger candidate in 2027.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku stated this during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
Asked whether he would contest the 2027 presidential election, he said it was not yet time to discuss that.
He said, “It’s not yet time. When the time comes, I will decide. What we are doing is for the good of the nation.
“If a younger candidate defeats me, I will concede and wholeheartedly support and guide him through. Our political party is gathering momentum.”
According to him, his main focus presently is to strengthen the ADC coalition.
He added, “Our political party gives pride of place to youths and women. This is our main focus.”
Atiku, however, urged youths to actively participate in politics and seek elective positions.
