Wife of the Vice-President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, said Nigeria was in dire need of good mothers like the biblical Deborah.
Mrs. Osinbajo spoke during a sermon she delivered at a service organised by the Aso Rock Villa Chapel to mark this year’s Mother’s Day, on Sunday. She enjoined mothers to strive to be role models by exhibiting the attributes of Christian mothers.
Quoting from the book of Judges, chapter 5, verses 6-7, the Vice-President’s wife said the life of Deborah in the bible should be a lesson for all women. She said, “This (Deborah) is the kind of mother we need today. She is a woman of great strength. There is a call today for Nigerian mothers to arise. Deborah arose for the people then.
“Mothers, it is a day for celebration and it is also a day to remember our calling and a day to remember what the Lord requires of us.”

She also urged all mothers in the country to teach their children virtues.
“The key thing in motherhood is the children. We need to teach our children the right way. Man shall not live by bread alone; so mothers need to teach our children spiritual things,” she said.
Also quoting from the book of Mark, chapter 6, verses 12-28, Mrs. Osinbajo acknowledged that not all mothers are good and godly.
According to her, King Herod’s wife is a bad case of motherhood in the bible.
“She is anti-human, anti-gospel and anti-Christ,” she said.
Meanwhile, women in the chapel seized the opportunity of the day to honour the Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, describing her as a true mother of the nation.
The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Mrs. Joan Ayo, on behalf of the women, commended the President’s wife for the support she has been giving her husband in building a virile nation.
“She is a mother and the mother of the nation and she has demonstrated that in so many ways,” she said.
Mrs. Buhari, who was represented by Mrs. Grace Chamah, was later presented with a portrait depicting the role of a mother in the upbringing of a child.
Gifts were also presented to the wife of the Vice-President, mother of the Vice-President; wife of the chaplain, Mrs. Obiageli Malomo; and wife of the chapel’s administrator, Mrs. Tina Ambi, among others.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was among top government officials that attended the service.
