As more and more soft drink brands flood the market, Nigeria has been listed as one of the countries with the highest volume of soft drink sales.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 30, at the ongoing Third International Trade Exhibition on agrofood, plastics, printing and packaging in Lagos, Martina Claus, the head of market development, German Engineering Federation, said Nigeria ranked fourth globally in the volume of soft drink sales recorded in 2016.
According to her, the statistics on soft drinks sales were sourced from the Euromonitor International, a global market intelligence publisher, NAN reports.
The four countries with the highest volume of soft drink sales are
1. United States – 114.75 million litres of soft drinks were sold
2. China – 88.18 million litres of soft drinks were sold
3. Mexico 45.30 million litres of soft drinks were sold
4. Nigeria – 38.68 million litres of soft drinks were sold
Claus also disclosed that 1.98 million litres of alcohol was sold in Nigeria in 2016 and 36.08 million litres of bottle water was consumed due to lack of portable water.
With all the health warnings about consumption of soft drinks, you would think Nigerians will reduce their intake.
