Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Find out what you need to know

1. A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday discharged and acquitted suspended DCP Abba Kyari and his two brothers – Mohammed and Ali – on charges bordering on non-disclosure of assets. In a judgment on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho found that the prosecuting agency – the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt as required under the law.

2. Nigeria’s largest privately owned refinery, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, has reassured Nigerians that it will prioritise domestic supply to prevent fuel scarcity in the country despite the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and the resulting volatility in the global oil market. In a statement on Thursday, the refinery said it remains committed to serving as a stabilising force for Nigeria’s energy market amid global supply disruptions triggered by the conflict in the Middle East.

3. Suspected terrorists have attacked a military base and Internally Displaced Persons camp in Ngoshe town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an unspecified number of soldiers and civilians. Locals and security sources confirmed the incident, saying a large number of armed terrorists invaded the town after Muslims broke their fast on Wednesday.

4. The Kano State House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office and breach of public trust. The notice of impeachment was presented on the floor of the Assembly by the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini Dala, who said the action was taken in compliance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.

5. The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, will vacate office in Abuja on Friday bringing to an end a five-month tenure widely regarded as having strengthened the Force’s public communication and digital engagement. It was gathered that a senior police officer has been pencilled down to replace him, although the officer’s identity has not been made public as of press time.

6. The Cross River State House of Assembly has indefinitely suspended Hon. Dickson Ovat Agbor, the representative of Obubra I State Constituency, following allegations of violent conduct considered unbecoming of a legislator. The suspension was announced during plenary after a motion moved by Rt. Hon. Davies Etta and seconded by Rt. Hon. Francis Bassey Asuquo.

7. The Senate on Thursday summoned the immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, over an alleged N210tn expenditure by the national oil company between 2017 and 2023, which the lawmakers say has not been properly accounted for.

8. A Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, alongside several other senior officers, will be retiring from the Nigeria Police Force, following recent changes in the leadership of the force. This is just as seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police have been slated for promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

9. The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed four police officers over their alleged involvement in the killing of seven traders at Owode Onirin Market in the Kosofe Local Government Area of the state. The state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja.

10. The Inter-Party Advisory Council on Thursday warned that political parties across the country may boycott the 2027 general elections if controversial provisions in the newly enacted Electoral Act 2026 are not urgently amended. The umbrella body of registered political parties said the law, recently signed by President Bola Tinubu, contains provisions that could undermine internal party democracy and weaken the credibility of the electoral process.
