Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Find out what you need to know

1. President Bola Tinubu has ordered the suspension of the recently introduced cashless payment system at Nigerian airports following concerns that its implementation has caused severe traffic gridlock and hardship for travellers. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the State House, Abuja, after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President.

2. The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has disclosed that he is ready to work for the realization of State Police. The new IGP also assured his men that their job is not in danger of being taken over by State Police.

3. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has denied writing any notice of death. Obasanjo was responding to an article circulating on social media platforms, especially WhatsApp, alleging a death notice. Speaking at his 89th birthday colloquium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo described those behind the article as “never-do-well.”

4. The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, has announced the immediate suspension of all pilgrimages to Israel due to the security situation in the Middle East. Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Executive Secretary of the NCPC, made this known in a statement.

5. Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso has disclosed that the nation’s Net External Reserves rose 50.5 per cent, year-on-year, to $34.8 billion in 2025 from $23.11 billion in 2024. In a statement from the apex bank, Cardoso said that the growth in external reserves reflects stronger external sector fundamentals and sustained policy reforms.

7. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Wednesday, lamented that recurring leadership tussles and protracted intra-party disputes are diverting its attention from core election planning and contributing to voter apathy ahead of the 2027 general elections. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, raised the concern at the opening of a three-day Technical Review Workshop in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

8. Newly sworn-in Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, on Wednesday inaugurated a committee on the establishment of state police. Speaking during the inauguration, Disu said the committee’s task was to examine the concept of state policing as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture and improve community-based policing.

9. Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, has assumed control of the prosecution of a former AGF, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, over alleged terrorism-related offences and unlawful possession of firearms. The development emerged on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja when the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), informed the court.

10. Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State is reportedly considering joining the ruling All Progressives Congress. Speculation has it that APC leaders in Abuja have reportedly wooed the governor to the party, allegedly offering him an automatic ticket to contest the governorship in 2027.
