Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Get to know the important things that you need to know this morning.

1. The Federal Government, state governments, and local government councils have shared a total of N1.969 trillion as revenue generated in December 2025 from the Federation Account. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, on Monday after the January 2026 meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee, which was held in Abuja.

2. The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command on Monday advised the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, FCT chapter to reschedule Tuesday’s planned peaceful protest. NLC had fixed Tuesday to protest over unpaid allowances to workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA.

3. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has held a private meeting with a former governor of Zamfara State and senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, in Abuja. It was gathered that the meeting took place at Atiku’s residence in Abuja and was held behind closed doors. Neither Atiku nor Yari addressed journalists after the meeting, and no official statement has been issued.

4. Traders at Singer Market, one of Kano’s major commodity hubs, are counting losses after an early morning fire razed parts of the market, destroying goods and property estimated to be worth billions of naira. The inferno, which broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, was confirmed by the Kano State Fire Service.

5. Traders in Onitsha Main Market, Anambra State, reopened their shops, on Monday, in compliance with the directive of Governor Chukwuma Soludo. For some years now, traders across the South East region have stayed off their business places in solidarity with the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

6. Nine suspects linked to the attack on a Benue State community have pleaded not guilty to the 57-count charge of terrorism preferred against them by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. They denied involvement in the June 13, 2025 attack on Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

7. Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, on Monday, raised concerns over the alleged use of expired teargas canisters by police operatives during last week’s protest against illegal demolitions and forced evictions in the Makoko waterfront area of Lagos. This came as the Lagos State government explained that the demolition of structures in Makoko was aimed at protecting lives and preventing potential disasters in the area.

8. The Naira on Monday appreciated to N1,465 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,470 per dollar last weekend. Similarly, the naira strengthened in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market, NFEM, appreciating to N1,384.5 per dollar.

9. The Senate will on Tuesday resume deliberation on the controversial Electoral Act amendment bill, amid mounting public outrage and pressure over delays that critics say could jeopardise the credibility of the 2027 general elections. It was gathered that the upper chamber plans to conclude work on the bill and transmit it this week.

10. Ahead of its national convention, scheduled for March 27 and 28, 2026, the All Progressives Congress, on Monday, unveiled a 73-member National Convention Central Coordination Committee. The party announced Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as Chairman and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, as Secretary of the committee, signalling intensified preparations for the convention, which will culminate in the selection of new members of the party’s National Working Committee.
