1. The All Progressives Congress, APC, has emerged victorious in five of the six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT during the weekend elections, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP secured a win in Gwagwalada, highlighting a strong endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, according to the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.

2. Two teenage herders were killed on Saturday by suspected assailants around Jol village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state said the victims were attacked while grazing cattle. He added that three cattle were also shot dead during the incident.

3. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, saying his achievements in the territory yielded political dividends to the governing All Progressives Congress, APC. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement on Sunday, said the President congratulated the winners of the just concluded FCT council elections.

4. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 20 suspects over alleged electoral offences during the just-concluded Federal Capital Territory local government elections. The arrests were made on Saturday, February 21, 2026, across several area councils in the FCT, with the suspects accused of offences including vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of election officials.

5. Panic has gripped residents of Dorowa Babuje in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen on Sunday evening. Sources said that the assailants invaded the community around 7:30 pm, unleashing sporadic gunfire on residents.

6. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed concern over the low voter turnout in Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT Area Council elections, saying the development showed democracy is being suffocated. Reacting to the exercise in a statement by his media office, Atiku, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, described the turnout as a damning verdict on the health of Nigeria’s democracy under the current administration.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party has inaugurated a special legal team to challenge the results of Saturday’s election held across the Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory. As declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, candidates of the All Progressives Congress won five of the six chairmanship seats in the council elections.

8. The Senate of the University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University) has approved the expulsion of 28 students over offences ranging from examination malpractice to drug possession and other serious misconduct. The decision was reached at the institution’s 191st regular Senate meeting after members considered the report of the Student Disciplinary Committee.

9. The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has projected a landslide victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that traditional rulers and stakeholders in the area have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno. Akpabio, who hails from Essien Udim, spoke to journalists shortly after the emergence of new APC local government officers through a consensus process.

10. Barely six days after six people were killed in a truck accident along the Old Toll Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, another three persons have lost their lives in a fresh crash on the same route. It was learnt on Sunday that the latest accident occurred in the early hours of the morning at the Ifo Railway Crossing section of the expressway.
