Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Find out what you need to know this morning

1. Rivers State House of Assembly has suspended impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention. The decision to halt the process was reached on Thursday during the Assembly’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

2. The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the death of its Chief of Operations, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum. Confirming his demise, Director of Naval Information (DINFO), Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, described him as a dedicated senior officer whose career was marked by exceptional professionalism, commitment to duty and invaluable contributions to naval operations and national security.

3. Officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission have raided the Abuja residence of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State. This follows his arrest after being granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. On Thursday night, Muyiwa Adekeye, spokesman of El-Rufai, posted on social media that the Aso Drive residence of the former governor was raided.

4. Ahead of Saturday’s Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared Friday a work-free day. The Minister, who made the announcement in a special broadcast aired on national television and radio stations on Thursday, also announced a restriction of movement from 8pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday.

5. Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been shot dead. It was gathered on Thursday that the monarch was killed after gunmen forced him out of the palace, on Wednesday night.

6. No fewer than 34 people were killed on Wednesday when suspected Lakurawa terrorists launched coordinated attacks on several rural communities in Kebbi State. The attacks occurred in villages within Arewa Local Government Area, particularly Bui and neighbouring settlements.

7. The Department of State Services has reopened investigations into the 2019 disappearance of Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, and is set to invite suspects in connection with the case. Dadiyata, a lecturer at the Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State, was declared missing on August 1, 2019, after gunmen reportedly took him from his residence in Kaduna.

8. Ogun State Police Command has concluded plans to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user, identified as Mirabel, after she allegedly admitted that her earlier claim of rape was false. Mirabel was said to have made the admission during a viral phone conversation with social media personality, VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM.

9. A Rivers State lawmaker, Senator Mpigi Barinada is dead. The ally of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, died on Thursday after a brief illness.

10. The African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Thursday strongly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his swift approval of the Electoral Act Amendment, describing the move as a serious setback for Nigeria’s democracy. In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the president’s quick assent to the controversial bill has signed the death warrant for credible elections in the country.
