‎1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic first for the institution. According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, is for a four-year term.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee, NWC, under the leadership of Dr Tanimu Turaki, SAN, in Tuesday met with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan behind close-door. The former president expressed confidence in the party saying PDP is very much alive.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission has resumed the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise, marking the start of its second phase. The resumption, which took effect on Monday, follows the conclusion of the first phase, which formally ended on December 10, 2025.

4. An improvised explosive device, IED, suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists, has killed six soldiers and injured five others in Borno State. Local and security sources said the incident occurred along the Damasak–Kareto road.

5. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in a statement on Tuesday, warned that Nigeria’s democracy was facing an existential threat, accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of deliberately weakening opposition parties and shrinking democratic space in a manner that could lead to a de facto one-party state.

6. Troops of Operation Enduring Peace, yesterday, said it has rescued Colonel Ajanaku (retd), following his abduction by gunmen in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The Army, which made this known via its official X handle, stated that the retired officer was kidnapped from his residence opposite the Salvation Army Church along Rukuba Road, Bassa LGA.

7. The family of twins abducted after their father was killed by suspected kidnappers has challenged claims by the Edo State Police Command that the victims were rescued unharmed. The deceased’s brother, Okhale Ilabeshi, disclosed this during an interview on Tuesday.

8. At least 12 suspects have been arrested following an attack on an estate in Mbodo, Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday afternoon, during which a resident was shot in the leg and abducted. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

9. The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 32 street urchins, popularly known as Omotaku, for allegedly causing public nuisance and obstructing traffic on major highways across the state. The agency, in a statement on Monday, stated that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated enforcement operation carried out on Tuesday across the Island and Mainland.

10. Nigeria’s poverty rate is projected to rise sharply to 62 per cent by 2026, with about 141 million people expected to be living below the poverty line, according to PwC. The projection is contained in PwC’s Nigeria Economic Outlook 2026, titled “Turning macroeconomic stability into sustainable growth.”
