Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Things you need to know.

‎
‎1. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, cautioned the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ajibola Basiru, to steer clear of political affairs in Rivers State.

Wike’s warning followed comments attributed to Basiru, who had cautioned the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, against what he described as disrespect towards Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

2. Abu Momoh, one of the two brothers abducted last weekend in Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area, has been killed by their abductors. Late Abu was kidnapped with brother, Ibrahim, a medical doctor, on January 2 at their residence along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo North.

3. The Super Eagles delivered a commanding performance to secure a 4-0 victory over Mozambique, booking their place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria were rampant from start to finish, asserting their dominance with pace, precision and ruthless finishing.

4. Several shops and vehicles were destroyed on Monday following a fire outbreak at the popular mechanic village in Sokoto, popularly known as Buzaye Garage, which is also patronised by motorists from neighbouring Niger. The inferno, which reportedly started around 10 a.m., was said by affected shop owners to have been triggered by an electrical fault.

5. Barely 48 hours after terrorists killed over 40 persons in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, suspected terrorists in the early hours of Monday attacked the busy Isanlu–Isin–Omu Aran road in Kwara State, kidnapping at least four travellers. This came on a day suspected terrorists attacked a security outpost manned by the Nigeria Police Border Patrol Team at New Kalli village in Borgu, also in Niger State.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday stated that former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. The Commission stressed that Bello’s trial is still ongoing and that it is solely the responsibility of the court—not the EFCC—to determine his guilt or innocence.

7. Rivers State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, has formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in her ward in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA. Odu, who completed her e-registration at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11 on Sunday took a tour of the six zones of ONELGA to sensitise the people on the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

8. The United Kingdom Metropolitan Police say they have arrested two suspects in connection with a stabbing incident that led to the death of a 23-year-old Nigerian, John Temitope Onetufo. It was learnt from a statement obtained from the Met Police website on Monday that the stabbing incident occurred on New Year’s Eve in the Lewisham area of London.

9. The management of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, has disowned students who participated in a protest against incessant kidnappings in the area, stating that those involved are not registered students of the institution. The management claimed that those involved in the demonstration were not members of the University Students’ Union Government, and they have no affiliation with the university in any capacity.

10. Former world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua is seriously considering retirement from boxing, according to his uncle, Adedamola Joshua. The 36-year-old boxer, who survived a fatal car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close friends and team members, made the decision known to his family in private following last week’s tragedy.
