‎1. Hosts Morocco beat Nigeria 4-2 on penalties to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, final after their semi-final clash on Wednesday finished 0-0 at the end of extra time. Morocco will play Senegal in Sunday’s showpiece after they defeated Egypt 1-0 in the other semi-final earlier thanks to a Sadio Mane strike.

2. President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday charged the Nigerian military to remain steadfast in discipline, loyalty and unity, describing men of the Armed Forces as the enduring symbol of Nigeria’s shared strength and guardians of the nation’s democracy. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the military in order to secure lasting peace and stability across the country.

3. The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have signed a landmark agreement that significantly overhauls the remuneration and welfare framework for university academics, in a move aimed at ending a 17-year industrial unrest. Government officials say the agreement lays a durable foundation for industrial harmony, addressing long-standing remuneration and welfare concerns.

4. Officials of the Kano State Hospital Management board have suspended no fewer than three personnel linked to the death of Kano woman Aishatu Umar after she underwent surgery at a government-owned hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Center, where scissors allegedly used during the operation were forgotten inside her body.

5. A yet-to-be identified housewife, a native of Isoko in Delta State, has killed her husband, side chick and injured one other person in the Ighwre-Ovie area of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. It was learned that the woman, who is currently held at the Ughelli Area Command, macheted her husband in the head multiple times before going berserk and killing the husband side chick and injured another.

6. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee on Wednesday said few changes made to the newly passed tax laws will not have any major effect. Speaking in Lagos, Oyedele downplayed the impact of any changes, saying they do not affect the core provisions of the legislation.

7. The United States, on Wednesday, said it was suspending the processing of immigrant visas from 75 countries, including Nigeria. The State Department is pausing immigrant visa processing for 75 countries,” a State Department spokesperson said.

8. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Benin, said it arrested 462 drug traffickers and seized more than 207,000kg of illicit drugs in various operations in 2025. The state’s Commander of the NDLEA, Mr Michael Ofoyeju, disclosed this on Wednesday in Benin, while briefing journalists on the achievements of the command for 2025.

9. The remains of the late Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Mr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, will be laid to rest on January 30, says Governor Douye Diri. Diri disclosed this on Wednesday at the 179th State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa.

10. The trial of a former governor of Taraba, Darius Ishaku was on Wednesday stalled in an Abuja High Court due to the absence of Bello Yero, a former Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftncy Affairs. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC charged Ishaku and Yero with criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and conversion of public funds to the tune of N27billion.
