1. 3. Troops of Joint Task Force North East ‘Operation HADIN KAI’ have arrested a suspect who is alleged to have masterminded the bomb explosion that killed five persons and injured 34 others after a suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device, IED inside a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno state. One Sheriff Umar was identified as a key coordinator of suicide bombing activities linked to recent attacks in the North East.
5. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that his political career would suffer irreparable damage if Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, secures a second term in office. Wike made the remark on Saturday while addressing stakeholders at a meeting in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
6. The Janaza (funeral) prayer service for Sina Ghami and Abdul Latif Kevin Ayodele, close friends of boxing star Anthony Joshua, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 4, 2026. The bodies of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele were repatriated to the United Kingdom following the fatal crash in Nigeria.

9. Private petroleum depots across Lagos and other key fuel trading hubs have raised the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to as high as N800 per litre. Data obtained from petroleumprice.ng on Friday showed that the average cost of petrol at private depots increased sharply within 48 hours, tightening margins for marketers and raising fresh concerns over an imminent spike in retail pump prices nationwide.
10. The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has suspended its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Robinson Ewor, for aligning with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Ewor had recently accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving party leaders and supporters over the political crisis that engulfed the state, saying the governor falsely created the impression that he could wrest political control from Wike, only to later abandon the party at the height of the turmoil.
