Good morning, world. Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers. Check out the important things you need to know.

‎1. President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of four Ambassador-Designates to strategic foreign missions, marking the first set of postings from the 68 nominees confirmed by the Senate in December 2025. According to a statement by the president’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the postings include Ambassador Ayodele Oke as Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to France and Colonel Lateef Are as Ambassador-designate to the United States of America.

2. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Thursday. The governor, who has been in the news in recent times over his criticism of some persons around the president, got to the Presidential Villa some minute past 3pm.

3. The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi, has declined a request by the State House of Assembly to set up a judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, citing subsisting court orders restraining him from taking such action. He explained that his office was served with two interim court orders on January 16, 2026, following suits filed by both Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu.

4. The Lagos State Police Command, Thursday, dismissed as false a bomb threat sent to two private schools in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area ,GRA saying no explosive device was found after a comprehensive security sweep of the premises. Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi debunked the report in a statement on Thursday.

5. Southern Kaduna Christians have declared a two-day fasting and prayer for the safe return of all abducted persons in Kajuru. The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, SKCLA, has expressed deep anguish over the recent kidnapping of 163 worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

6. The Supreme Court, on Thursday, finally brought to an end the long-running murder case of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, dismissing the attempt by the Lagos State Government to revive the prosecution of Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd). In a unanimous decision, a five-man panel of the apex court held that Lagos State abandoned its appeal against Al-Mustapha’s acquittal by failing to take any legal steps for nine years.

7. Two separate road crashes along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Atan area of Ogun State have left two people dead and six others injured. It was learnt in an interview on Thursday with the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash occurred on Wednesday night.

8. No fewer than 11 Nigerians have been arrested after Thai immigration and police operatives busted a suspected 13-member international romance scam syndicate in the Muang Thong Thani area of Thailand. The arrests, which were carried out on Monday, were reported by a local news platform, Thailand News, on Thursday.

9. The Federal Government has banned electricity distribution companies and installers from collecting any form of payment for meters, warning that DisCo officials and installers found extorting customers will be prosecuted. The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, issued the warning on Thursday during an on-site inspection of newly imported smart meters at APM Terminals, Apapa, Lagos.

10. The North-Central All Progressives Congress Forum has rejected moves to drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that such a step would amount to a grave political miscalculation. The Forum’s position was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, following reports that some persons within the ruling party were pushing for Shettima’s replacement.
