ENOCH ISRAEL, A LECTURER WITH MIVA OPEN UNIVERSITY, ABUJA HIGHLIGHTS WHAT HE INTENDS TO ACHIEVE IF ELECTED AS MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

What I Would Do in Jema’a Constituency, If I Were the House of Assembly Member

If I were to be the Member, Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing Jema’a Constituency, this is what I would do for my people.

1. EDUCATION
As the House of Assembly Member, representing Jema’a Constituency, provision of quality education to the youths would be my major priority. It was Nelson Mandela, the late South African President, who stated that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Accordingly, the best way to develop our people is through quality education. Thus, I will make sure that the youths are well educated. Since 2019, I have been given JAMB scholarships to students from Jema’a LGA annually and consistently, targeting 10 students every year. And some of the beneficiaries have gone ahead to secure admissions in different institutions within the country.

Consequently, we shall maintain the momentum, and even build on it. I shall increase the number to 100 students annually. We shall also give WAEC and NECO scholarships to 100 students annually, which would be selected from different wards across the constituency. But we are not just stopping there, we shall also pay the tuition fee of 100 students annually, who are studying in different higher institutions within the state.

However, our focus won’t just be on the students alone. As someone who is already in the academia, I know the role and power of incentives in motivating and encouraging education. As such, we shall also provide quarterly incentives to all the public schools – both primary and secondary – within the constituency. This incentive would encourage the teachers to be hard working, resilient, committed and dedicated to their duties.

2. AGRICULTURE
Agriculture is another key sector I shall prioritise, because I know that without agriculture, we shall not eat, which means we cannot survive. On this note, I shall partner with Rijo Shekari, who is the CEO of Kamrum Integrated Farms, and also a Seniour Legislative Aide to the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, to train some of our selected youths on livestock farming and agriculture for a year. We shall call them the “Rijo Shekari Ranchers”, and it shall be done cohort by chohort. And at the completion of their training, successful and hardworking youths (based on the recommendation of the CEO of Kamrum Farms, Rijo Shekari) would be empowered with 5 million Naira each, to start their livestock farming and production in Jema’a LGA. This would boast livestock farming, agricultural development, and also lead to unemployment reduction and poverty alleviation.

I shall also provide enough fertilizers to our farmers, conditional cash transfer, farming tools, and organise periodic workshop/seminar to educate our local farmers on the best and latest farming practices globally.

3. SPORTS
I acknowledge that our youths love sports, and we shall make it one of our priorities. We shall host annual football competitions, where respected people and dignitaries in the sporting world would be invited, including members of the NFF. We shall also partner with Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, the founder of the first sports university in Africa, situated in Delta State, for some of our selected athletes to be offered scholarships at his prestigious Sports University of Nigeria, located in Delta State).

4. ENTERTAINMENT
As a stakeholder in the entertainment industry, I know the importance of entertainment in Nigeria today, and the revenue it generates. And I also know that our youths are some of the most talented artistes in Nigeria, and Africa as a whole. Accordingly, we shall prioritise entertainment. I shall partner with my boss, Audu Maikori, the founder of Chocolate City, for a well-equipped and world-class recording studio to be established in Kafanchan, which would be a subsidiary of Chocolate City. Our talented youths would have access to record quality songs in the studio, and other artistes from other states and regions can also come and record, and pay a token for it, which would be another means of revenue generation for us. We shall also send some selected youths, who are talented and interested in the music business, to Lagos for 3 – 6 months music internship at the Chocolate City Headquarters, where music production, talent management, A&R and marketing would be conducted for them. We shall make Kafanchan the hub of entertainment in Northern Nigeria.

My name is Enoch Israel, and these are just a few things I would do if I were the Kaduna State House of Assembly Member, representing Jema’a Constituency. Our people deserve better, and can do better, if only they have the right leaders in power.

Enoch Israel, anipr.
