Early life

Born in Okoboh, Abua, Rivers State, Nigeria. He hails from Abua/Odual Local Government Area and grew up in Rivers State, where his passion for music and creativity first took shape. From a young age, Goodie Barz showed a deep interest in rhythm, storytelling, and lyrical expression, often inspired by the vibrant culture and soundscape of Port Harcourt, one of Nigeria’s music hubs.

Education

Goodie Barz had his early education at Victory International School, Osaronu, where he completed his primary education between 2003 and 2006. He proceeded to Community Secondary School, Alode, where he attended from 2007 to 2013, completing both his junior and senior secondary education.

Although his formal education shaped his discipline and outlook on life, it was during this period that his passion for music deepened, setting the stage for his future career in the industry.

Musical Career

Goodie Barz officially began his music journey in 2012, at a time when Afrobeat and hip-hop were experiencing a resurgence in Nigeria. He developed a unique sound he describes as Afro Drill, a fusion of Afrobeat rhythms, drill beats, and hip-hop storytelling.

His music reflects his experiences growing up in Rivers State, blending real-life stories with artistic creativity. Influenced by artists such as Duncan Mighty, Erigga, Timaya, Monaky, and J. Cole, Goodie Barz draws from a wide spectrum of Afrobeat, hip-hop, and conscious rap to craft his identity as an artist.

He is currently signed under his self-affiliated label and crew, Paper Money Dream Gang (PMDG) Central Crew, where he works closely with producer GhadMan in developing his projects.

Artistry and Style

Known for his smooth lyrical flows, Goodie Barz creates music that balances Afrobeat rhythms, hip-hop edge, and storytelling depth. His style is marked by authenticity, cultural roots, and an ambition to globalize the Afro Drill movement.

For Goodie Barz, music is more than entertainment, it is a form of expression and a channel to inspire, connect, and represent his community. His ultimate goal is to take Afro Drill “from Port to the world,” putting Port Harcourt on the global map of music innovation.

Goodie Barz credits Duncan Mighty for inspiring him with his Port Harcourt-rooted sound, Timaya for his street-wise storytelling, Erigga for his authenticity, Monaky for his rising influence, and J. Cole for his conscious rap and international artistry. These influences helped him mold his own unique Afro Drill sound.
