A statement released by the diocese confirmed the devastating incident, expressing profound sorrow over the untimely loss. Fr. Sylvester, who was born on December 11, 1980, and ordained as a priest on February 11, 2021, was serving as the Pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tachira, in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

He was kidnapped around 9:15 PM, and despite hopes for his safe return, he was found dead the following morning.

The circumstances surrounding his murder remain unclear, leaving many devastated and searching for answers. Fr. Sylvester was known for his unwavering dedication to his parishioners, always spreading the message of peace, love, and hope. His loss has left a deep void within the diocese and among all who knew him.

The diocese has called on all priests, religious, and the faithful to unite in prayer for the repose of his soul. Holy Masses, Rosaries, and prayers are being offered in his memory, as the community struggles to come to terms with this tragedy.

In the wake of this horrific event, the diocese has also urged the youth and members of the Takad community to remain calm and not take the law into their own hands. It emphasized the importance of seeking justice through peaceful means while holding onto faith and unity.

Funeral arrangements for Fr. Sylvester will be announced in due course. As the diocese mourns, the faithful continue to pray for strength, justice, and peace in these trying times.
