Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has approved the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom, with its headquarters located in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, after decades of struggle for self-rule.
Governor Mohammed announced the decision on Monday in Bauchi during a meeting with stakeholders from the area. He explained that the approval followed careful consideration of reports from committees established to review the issue.
The governor expressed his sorrow over the loss of innocent lives due to ongoing ethno-religious violence in the Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro regions, which have been central to the struggle for the Seyawa Chiefdom.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to finding a lasting solution to the challenges surrounding the creation of the Sayawa Chiefdom, a goal that has eluded previous governments for more than 30 years.
“After receiving the committee’s reports, a white paper drafting committee was appointed to outline the government’s stance on the findings and recommendations,” said Governor Mohammed. “Additionally, another committee was tasked with studying the structures and succession models of Chiefdoms in Plateau, Kaduna, and Nasarawa states.”
The governor further clarified that the Sayawa Chiefdom will be carved from the current Bauchi Emirate and will be led by a Chief, who will be designated as the Gun Zaar.
