The man of the people ENGR. JOSEPH CIROMA was on 21st November, 2024 presented with an award as the TRANSFORMATIONAL PHILANTHROPIST by AFRICA YOUNG LEADERS UNIVERSE.
The award given to him is as a result of his SELFLESS SERVICE, AND PHILANTHROPY in SOUTHERN KADUNA.

Engr. Joseph Ciroma, FNSE, FCAI, MNIC, MNSIP, MIAD, IEEE, MPMI who retired from the services of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as General Manager, Program Coordinator — a top management position was born on 4th September, 1963 in Tanda-Kagoma, a village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He started his educational career as far back as 1970 when he enrolled into primary school Asso from 1970 to 1975; Government Secondary School Funtua from 1975 to 1980; College of Art & Science, Zaria from 1980 to 1982; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1982 to 1986 where he obtained a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. He proceeded on further studies an obtained a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy in 2004 from the same university and another Master’s Degree in Finance and Administration from the Abuja Business School which he completed in April, 2024.
Engr. Ciroma, an illustrious son of Kaduna State, recently retired in September, 2023 after a sterling public service career with a prodigious talent and intellectual firepower, he played salutary roles in breaking the jinxes in Nigeria’s power sector. He joined the services of the then Nigeria Electric Power Authority (NEPA) in 1988 which transit to Power Holding Company of Nigeria Nigeria (PHCN) and later to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as part of the Federal Government’s reforms in the Power Sector.
After rigorous training in generation, transmission and distributions sectors, he rose and became the Business Manager as the chief accounting officer of the district in Kaduna, Zamfara, Sokoto and Jigawa states where he impacted positively to the re-orientation of the electricity power distribution to enhance the improvement of services in these states. He was later seconded to the office of Minister of State (Power) as Special Assistant (Technical) to the Honourable Minister and played a key role in the unbundling and the privatisation of the power section to eleven successor companies. As a result of his vast experience in the power sector, he rose to become the General Manager, Program Coordinator responsible for the coordination & implementation of power projects funded by four international donors, World Bank, African Development Bank, French Development Agency and Japan International Corporation Agency.
Engr Ciroma, a power expert of international repute, a key player in Nigeria’s power sector, a living proof of GOOD GOVERNANCE and an unwavering believer in the tenets of global BEST PRACTICES in human and material resource management, the soft spoken, kind-hearted and highly cerebral person, is the epitome of what a true leader should be and known for his calm and composed demeanor, his leadership skills are exceptional. He has always been a role model for the younger generation of his profession as well as being a mentor to a teeming population of productively ambitious youth in and outside Kaduna state, Southern Kaduna.
He is not just a power sector man, but also a friend and HOPE to many. He puts smile on people’s face with employment opportunities, youth empowerment, women empowerment, electrification of several communities in southern Kaduna couple with assisting young men and female pupil in paying for WAEC, GCE and NECO examination fees.
He has visited most nooks and crannies in Nigeria and have also visited the following countries: United Kingdom, Canada, United States, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Dubai, South Korea, China, India, South Africa, Benin Republic, Chad, Togo, Niger and Burkina Faso.
He is happily married with a wife (Mrs Clara Ciroma) and three children.
