The Police Service Commission (PSC) says the training of successful candidates for the police constable recruitment exercise will begin on August 10.

In a statement on Monday, Ikechukwu Ani, PSC spokesperson, said the police recruitment board has approved the commencement of the training.

Ani asked successful candidates to confirm their status and check the information about the training here.

The PSC spokesperson said candidates selected for the specialist cadre will resume training two months after their general duty counterparts have commenced the exercise.

Ani said the training of the specialist cadre will be announced in due course.

“The Police Service Commission wishes to appreciate the applicants for their patience and understanding while efforts were made to ensure that the exercise was inclusive and generally acceptable,” the statement reads.

“The commission also states that it will continue to ensure that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is based on merit and respect for the federal character principles.

“It enjoins the successful candidates to see their new status as a call to duty for the Nigerian nation stressing that the commission will monitor their training programmes to ensure that they will come out prepared to join forces in fighting the security challenges facing our nation.”

In June, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) rejected the list of successful candidates for the constable recruitment exercise over alleged corruption and irregularities.

The NPF said when the PSC portal was scrutinised and it was discovered that “several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply and therefore did not take part in the recruitment exercise”.

Reacting to the NPF’s comment, the commission asked the police to provide evidence of the corruption allegations.

The PSC accused the police of an attempt to usurp its constitutional powers to recruit police personnel.
