A decade ago, Danish humanitarian worker Anja Ringgren Loven and her team rescued a young Nigerian girl who had been labeled a witch. Now, ten years later, Loven is celebrating the progress and achievements of the girl, named Charity.
Loven, the founder of the non-profit organization Land of Hope, shared before and after photos of Charity on her Facebook page on April 5th. In her post, Loven reflected on the day she and her team found Charity in an abandoned house, where she had been living in solitude and desperation after being outcast by her family and community due to accusations of witchcraft.
Charity was severely malnourished, abused, and had only one oversized Chelsea football jersey to wear. However, thanks to the efforts of Loven and her team, Charity has since made significant strides in her development and growth.
Loven described Charity as a strong and independent young woman who will begin university next year, with all of her achievements being credited to the outpouring of support and love from those around her.
Loven celebrated this momentous occasion by dressing up and commemorating Charity’s accomplishments, marking a significant milestone in the young woman’s life and an inspiring example of resilience and triumph in the face of adversity.
