My 2021 Miss Nasarawa Beauty Pageant Journey.
As a contestant in the Miss Nasarawa pageantry event that was organized by the Tomorrow’s Youth Ambassadors (TYA) Founded and headed by Mr. Precious Bashayi, I have these experiences to share.
I saw the advert for the event on Facebook and decided to obtain the form and a camp fee of โฆ15,000 was paid by those of us who made it to the camp, even after paying the camp fee I was not comfortable with the accommodation.(as three of us were lumped up in one room).
According to them the benchmark of winning are: a. Votes 25% b. Traditional attire 25% c. Cat walking and questions 10% d. Tickets sales 20% e. Attitude in camp 20%.
I spent all my resources and with support from family and friends, to buy all the costumes for the event.
I went to camp on the 28th December 2021 and I spent two days in the camp, while in the camp myself and other contestant were taken to the Deputy governorโs office, the First ladyโs office, the Ministry of information, culture, and tourism and the Ministry of works to solicit Financial support.
I participated in the voting and had sleepless nights soliciting for votes of which I got 1361 votes amounting to โฆ136,100. I exceeded the 1000 votes threshold of 25%.
The tickets were given to us few days (26/12/2021) before the event which was very late, I tried as much as possible to sell tickets worth over โฆ100,000.
I did excellently well in the camp, in fact i was said to be the most well behaved contestant in the camp.
I was not left behind at the climax of the event, I correctly answered all the questions I was asked and did well also in my catwalking.
After all these, my mandate was stolen at the end. (As result sheets were exchanged on stage by the organisers just after announcing the first) it was given to someone else.
The next day after the event 31/12/2021, Precious and his team had meeting (the only meeting that we officially had) with us, they say, the winner will no longer go to Limpopo and all the six queens will go for a vacation in Yankari. They also promised to give the 1st (i.e. Myself) and 2nd Runner up cars after the star prize has been presented. Miss Nasarawa North and South were promised to be refunded all the money they spent.
Not even the original prize or the promised prize by Precious and his team were given to me or any of my colleagues.
After 31st December, 2021, no form of communication from Precious or his team members, we made several effort on our official platform to make them talk but to no avail, my colleagues did same (tried calling for meeting) but Precious and his team turned deaf ears.
After asking people to use their hard earned resources to vote for me and also buy my tickets, I have nothing to show that their struggle was worth it, how can they support me in the future for a good course? Even the earlier advertised consolation price of a laptop and wardrobe allowance to the second runner up was not given and nothing said about it. There has also not been any form of communication from the organisers to carry us along.
Three months after silence from the Miss Nasarawa pageantry team, I decided to seek for public intervention.
Precious and his team are now threatening to dethrone me, is seeking for justice now a crime?
I need justice. *We decided to go public after several fruitless effort to get the organisers to say something to us* .
Myself and my other contestants demand justice.
I, therefore, plead that the Nassarawa State government and the authorities in charge should take appropriate measures to ensure that justice is delivered and to prevent this from happening again in the future.
