Bandits have killed five persons, including 82-year-old Head of Gada District, Alhaji Umar Allah, in Bungudu Local Council, Zamfara State.
The bandits, who burnt down the palace, also abducted many people, including women and children in the community.
It was gathered that the late district head was a father to over 30 children and many grandchildren.
Addressing journalists yesterday, the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, said the police tactical team deployed to the affected town rescued nine victims from the bandits.
TO tame insecurity across the country, former Army Intelligence Officer, Col. Hassan Stan-Labo (rtd.), has asked the Federal Government to deploy drones.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ yesterday, Stan-Labo said “technology is not playing the needed role” in the North East.
Aside drones deployment, Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State has promised to assist any interested resident of the state to acquire arms for self-defence, as Islam permits it.

However, Zulum has resettled 69,000 IDPs in 11 Borno communities, following the closure of six camps in Maiduguri metropolis, including the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp last July.
The Director-General, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Yabawa Kolo, disclosed in Maiduguri, yesterday, that 13 camps were earmarked for closure this year.
According to her, the 69,000 IDPs were relocated from six official camps of Bakkasi, Muhammad Goni College Of Legal Studies (MOGOLIS), National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Farm Centre, Muna Dayalti and Haruna Alana. She pledged to ensure the return of about 1.6 million IDPs in 2022.
RELATEDLY, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has advised the Federal Government to develop practical and lasting solution to the lingering security challenges in the country.
Bagos, representing Jos South and Jos East Federal Constituency, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Jos, yesterday.
MEANWHILE, IDPs in the New Kuchigoro camp of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, say the Federal Government has not been helping the inmates.
They charged the government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to help less-privileged Nigerians, especially this festive season.
Speaking on behalf of residents while receiving an NGO, Victory Idewele Foundation (VIF), on medical outreach to the camp, Ali Yusuf said: “Government has not been doing anything to help us here; it is only NGOs that come here to attend to us.”
