Lionel Messi to sign two-year deal worth £25m per year after tax with PSG; 34-year-old will have the option to extend the deal by a third year and will receive a £25m signing-on fee; Messi was set to sign a new five-year contract at Barcelona but the club were unable to complete the deal.
Talks between Messi and PSG have taken place until late into the night. Those talks ended with the Messi-camp agreeing to a two-year contract with an option for one additional year. Messi’s father will meet with the club to get a clearer picture. PSG want to announce the transfer on the weekend.
Messi transfer – Neymar played a major role
Former Barcelona teammate Neymar was also heavily involved in the negotiations. The two played together from 2013 to 2017 and remain close friends. According to French reports, Neymar has offered his number 10 to Messi. The Brazilian received the number when he joined the club four years ago. Messi, however, has turned down the offer and will instead wear the number 19, which he wore at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
