In a memo signed by Fatima Binta-Mohammed, its registrar, the institution also renamed the 2019/2020 session to 2020/2021.
It announced January 18, 2021 as the first semester commencement date for the new academic session for undergraduates while second semester will begin on May 3, 2021.
According to the senate, postgraduates will start their first semester on January 18, while the second semester will begin on June 1.
It also granted amnesty to postgraduate students of the institution who are yet to register within the stipulated time frame before the start of the new session.
The development comes about two weeks after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called off its over nine months strike which it commenced in March last year.
BUK was said to have completed its mid-semester break for the 2019/2020 academic session for undergraduates before ASUU embarked on the strike.
The institution’s postgraduate students had also resumed for the session before the industrial action.
ASUU had embarked on the strike over the non-implementation of agreements the federal government reached with it in 2009.
The union had also opposed the adoption of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) while presenting its University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) as alternative payroll software
