The Chairman made this known in his office when he received members and trainees of Christian Rural And Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN) who were in his office for advocacy visit on Wednesday.
Represented by the council’s vice chairman, Hon Ngboni Micah Diggah, the Chairman lamented that the habit of indiscriminate dumping of refuse which leads to enviromental pollution with consequences on human health was due to ignorance on the economy potentials of effective waste management.
Hon Averik however noted that with continued positive orientation and capacity building training on the inherent economic benefits of waste management by advocacy groups and civil organizations such as CRUDAN, the situation may change for the better.
While assuring CRUDAN of the local government support to their program, the Chairman encouraged the youths already trained on how to transform waste into wealth to be committed to the project as it holds the promise for economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Earlier, the Advocacy Officer, Christian Rural And Urban Development Association of Nigeria (CRUDAN) , Mr Caleb Gusen said they were in the Chairman’s office to showcase their products and to as well seek the Council’s support towards the transition to zero waste in Jema’a Local Government. 
He explained that the group focus among others include promoting inclusion, resilience and sustainability of Urban communities by educating and enabling the youths and other key communities actors to appreciate the challenges and economic opportunities that come with waste management.
He however called for strategic commitment and approach on the part of the government and civil society organizations to address the problem of waste management so as save energy, reduce global warming emissions and other health hazards related to environmental pollution.
High point of the visit include the presentation of charcoal briquettes to the wife of the local government chairman ,Mrs Salamatu Averik and Council secretary Hon Amos Samaila produced by the trainees from waste material which they described as good alternative energy for cooking.
CRUDAN is a Christian, non-profit, non-governmental organization base in Jos, Plateau State.
