Nigerian musician, songwriter and 2020 GRAMMY Nominee, Burna Boy has been accused of smartly stealing and sampling songs of legendary Nigerian Afrobeat genre pioneer, Fela Kuti.
Nigerian musician, Daniel Marven posted a video of Fela Kuti and Burna Boy’s songs where most of Burna Boy’s hit songs were smartly sampled from Fela Kuti’s songs.
Daniel Marven shared the trending video on Twitter and wrote: “All this time Burna Boy has been stealing music from Fela Kuti”.
Some Nigerians have labelled Burna Boy as a musician who isn’t creative enough to write original songs.
When you watch the video, you could see that Burna Boy went about the stealing and sampling of Fela Kuti’s songs the smart and intelligent way.
There is nothing wrong with sampling songs of another musician with permission but questions are raised when it becomes too much.
Many Twitter users have raised the question “Is Burna Boy creative and intelligent”?
Well, to me, it’s only an intelligent and smart musician who can steal and sample songs of other musicians.
