As they said “Too much of everything is bad”. Nasarawa state has so far becomes one of the state with the most highest number of Queens with little or no pet project to show. Here, Barnabas Egbon the convener of “NATURALLY HIGH MUSIC FESTIVAL” writes bitterly about this and called on the government to look into the matter.

Each week, I receive unreleased songs from Nasarwa artistes and I can say that these guys are putting in a lot of work into their craft. The same cannot be said about beauty pageants and their organizers in Nasarawa state. If you go to any event in Nasarawa a common feature is a front seat with all the “Miss Everything” with their sash and an accompanying blink crown.
Beauty queens are supposed to be a symbol, a representative of something that the event organizers seek to achieve, but this cannot be easily picked out in Nasarawa state as we have queens littered around, doing nothing. Yet we spend so much money organizing these events, and when the money is not recovered innocent girls bear the consequences.
There is always a promise of prizes that never gets redeemed or prizes are redeemed and the queen doesn’t know what her duties are.
Did you know in Nasaraw alone we have queens that are sitting with crowns of:
1. Miss Nasarawa (recently institutionalized by the state government)
2. Face of Nasarawa
3. Face of Independence
4. Most Beautiful Girl in Nasarawa
5. Face of Democracy
6. Face of Nigeria NasarawaEach of these queens has two other queens that they are expected to work together, hand in hand. There are other queens bearing titles like Miss Photogenic, Miss Tribal Associations, Miss Towns, Miss Radio Stations and a lot of others from the different tertiary institutions.
I don’t mind if we have queens that are purposeful; if we are building a team of young ladies to be Miss world someday, so far we are riding on mediocrity and not even close to getting things right.
We need to tap ourselves and do the right thing. Maybe there should be an agency by the state government that will be responsible for regulating some of these beauty pageant cartels.
